NASCAR Truck Drivers Fight Each Other After Wrecking Into Finish Line
The rough racing to the checkered flag required a lengthy review by NASCAR before Nemechek was declared the victor Sunday.
I’m not sure what’s more insane about the end of today’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. John Hunter Nemechek hopefully learned that when you get the win in controversial fashion, maybe it’s best to just pack it up and head home.
Custer was clearly livid as he exited his truck and the sight of Nemecheck looking to claim the flag to celebrate was all too much to bear, leaping the barrier and rushing the brazen driver with a hit Jerome Kaino would’ve been proud of.
After John Hunter Nemechek crashed Cole Custer to win Sunday’s Truck Series race, Custer expressed his anger by tackling Nemechek. But the two were quickly separated.
After the race, Nemechek jumped out of his auto and asked for the victory flag at the start line and that’s when Custer took things into his own hands.
Custer comes in for the form tackle (FS1). He finished inside of the top 10 at the track each of the last two seasons, but failed to finish better than ninth.
Nemechek, who is only 19 years old, led 19 of the 66 total laps run. It appeared as if he’d enter Victory Lane, though he had to overcome several obstacles, including a pit strategy that sent him from first to fifth with less than 20 laps to go. But what Nemechek did to Custer was far more blatant than what Logano did to Kenseth.
The finish was in question for a few minutes, apparently because the trucks weren’t picked up by the electronic timing lines on the track since they were in the grass.
NASCAR waited approximately five minutes after the checkered flag flew to declare the victor. The youngster responded with a leaping tackle to knock John Nemechek to the ground as the race victor waited at the checkered flag-stand.
