Nat Wolff To Lead Adam Wingard’s Death Note
Warner Bros.is producing this American adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s manga series, which is being directed by Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next).
A bit of history on the project: in 2009, Warner Bros. beat nine other competition studios to acquire the film rights to Death Note.
A new live adaptation with a tentative title “Death Note” will hit Japan in 2016.
In addition to building YA cred with Towns, Wolfe appeared in a supporting role in The Fault in Our Stars, Fox 2000’s adaptation of the John Green YA sensation.
The plot of the anime is pretty violent with the Death Note giving murderous powers to its owner, so it’ll be interesting to see Nat take on a darker role.
Wolff plays a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone simply by writing the victim’s name.
The site reports that Wolff will be playing the part of the killer high school student. “However, when criminals start dropping dead one by one, the authorities send the legendary detective, L, to track down the killer, and a battle of wits, deception and logic ensues”. Production is scheduled to begin this spring. Should anyone hold such power? Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) wrote the more recent draft of the script.
