Nathan Coulter-Nile in Australia squad for West Indies seires
McDermott said it was “only a rest period (for Starc) at the moment”, but that it was a wait and see situation. “The new ball is going to be a big thing and as long as we get accustomed to the wickets and batting on the wickets when it comes time to play the long innings we will be able to do it”.
Australia replaced injured left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc with uncapped right-arm seamer Nathan Coulter-Nile on Tuesday in their 12-man Test cricket squad to face the West Indies in the first match starting in Hobart from December 10.
Chairman of Australian selectors Rod Marsh is hoping that Peter Nevill can go on to break Adam Gilchrist’s record of 17 centuries – the most by a wicket-keeper for Australia.
While the first Test against West Indies is still a few days away, talks of Coulter-Nile making it into the playing XI are slightly remote for now given the presence of Josh Hazlewood, Peter Siddle and James Pattinson in the squad.
Australia bowled New Zealand out for 208 to set a victory target of 187 and though seamer Trent Boult’s five wickets took the match down to the wire, the hosts’ lion-hearted paceman Peter Siddle stroked the winning runs under the floodlights. Coulter-Nile, who has played 13 one-day internationals and 11 Twenty20s for Australia, is short on match practice after being suspended from his most recent Sheffield Shield outing for showing dissent to an umpire.
“Injuries are always disappointing but unfortunately that’s part and parcel of fast bowling”, Starc said.

“I think the last couple of days of a Test match can be quite hard for a fast bowler if you’re bowling 60 plus overs in a Test”. “In the meantime we’ve got to get on with it”.
“You’ve got to give both bat and ball a chance”.
“When I played the game I never underestimated anyone”, he said.
Just four of the West Indies’ 15-man squad have played Test cricket in Australia: batsman Marlon Samuels, fast bowlers Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin.
“At Cricket Australia we are about putting fans first so we are delighted that so many have embraced the day-night Test concept”, CA chief James Sutherland said.
