Nathan Eovaldi reveals Tommy John surgery shocker
He will miss all of this season and next season.
Nathan Eovaldi’s worst-case scenario has come true.
The New York Yankees right-hander was diagnosed with a torn flexor tendon and partially-torn UCL muscle in his throwing arm.
Eovaldi’s flexor tendon tore completely off the bone and he will have season-ending surgery within the next few days.
It’s a huge possibility the Yankees have seen the last of Nathan Eovaldi. “It’s my second one so it’s a big deal”.
According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, Nathan Eovaldi – who is now on the 15-day DL – has a torn flexor tendon and a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. “Hopefully everything goes well with the surgery and I’ll work hard to get back”.
He was scheduled to be arbitration eligible after this season and to become a free agent after 2017.
Eovaldi has struggled to a 4.76 ERA in 124.2 innings for the Yankees this season, and drew interest from multiple teams, including the Pirates, before last month’s non-waiver trade deadline.
Unfortunately, the earliest Eovaldi will be back in an Major League Baseball uniform is 2018.
Eovaldi was 9-8 this year with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP.
