Nation’s only Latina governor denounces Trump’s comments about Mexican
Now, most of the items are heavily discounted on the store’s website.
It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Donald Trump, and now the presidential hopeful is speaking out about the controversy – and subsequent fallout – surrounding him due to remarks he recently made about Mexican immigrants.
On Wednesday, Mr Trump hit back in his own statement saying that it was he who chose to terminate his business relationship with Macy’s “because of the pressure being put on them by outside sources”.
Macy’s department stores, which carried the billionaire presidential candidate’s menswear collection, will no longer do so. The largest is on Union Square in San Francisco.
Macy’s announced today it is pulling the Donald Trump branded merchandise after he made inflammatory and racially charged statements directed towards immigrants from Mexico, calling them “killers and rapists”, according to CNN.
NBC and Univision have also ended business dealings with Trump, after he called immigrants from Mexico rapists and drug runners during his speech to announce his candidacy for president last month. We wish we could say it’s nothing personal but, alas, nothing says “eff you” quite like Mexico selling piñatas of your face. “We’re talking about our roots, our culture, our values …”
Trump reacted to the news by releasing his own statement, declaring the end of the business agreement was his decision.
He also said that if he were to start a new product line in the future, he would make sure that his ties and shirts are made in America.
And though polls have shown Trump is unpopular among the broader Republican electorate – suggesting his support has a relatively low ceiling – he has managed to dominate headlines about the 2016 race since his June 16 campaign launch.
Meanwhile, musicians who were to perform at the Miss US event in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on 12 July began dropping out. Jones, who was crowned Miss Universe in 1991, announced last week that not only did she feel disrespected as a woman and citizen, but she was also considering withdrawing Mexican contestants from this year’s pageant. Many have motioned a petition to have Macy’s drop Trump’s clothing line, to which the company has agreed to pursue.
Univision, the top Spanish-language network in the United States, earlier said it would not broadcast Miss US or Miss Universe. “I mean, that is uncalled for… completely”.
Trump sued Univision for $500 million this week. The pageant lost both its co-hosts Tuesday, with “Dancing with the Stars” Cheryl Burke and MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts bowing out.
