National Basketball Association scores: Stephen Curry, Warriors beat Bulls to remain undefeated
In a game that featured 18 lead changes and 17 ties, the Warriors took a slim 77-73 lead into the fourth quarter.
While the odds the Warriors go 82-0 in the regular season are astronomical, you do wonder when they’ll lose their first game. You can chalk a few of that second half comeback up to the Warriors being on cruise control, but it was good to see the Nuggets play with pride.
The resurgence of Danilo Gallinari has had a lot to do with it. The forward has averaged 18 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a team-high 33.9 minutes per game.
In Los Angeles, Kyle Lowry had 25 points, DeMar DeRozan scored seven of his 18 in the final 3:34, and Toronto snapped a three-game skid with a victory over the Lakers.
Guard Klay Thompson scored 25 points for the Warriors.
In the end, the Bulls became another Warriors’ victim. Igoudala is creating even more havoc on defense.
The third quarter was the Jimmy Butler quarter as Chicago tried to stay in the game.
As expected, Rose missed the game.
While Curry again topped the scoring with 27 points it was Golden State’s defensive pressure down the stretch, particularly that of Draymond Green that was vital as the Warriors outlasted the Bulls.
The Clippers responded with a three-pointer by Jamal Crawford before Curry drained a three-pointer with 1:47 remaining that gave the Warriors a 116-115 lead that they would not relinquish. The Warriors’ backcourt was plus-24 in the fourth quarter, and the Bulls’ backcourt, which included Kirk Hinrich, was minus-21.
“When it’s winning time, it’s incredible how good they’ve gotten at locking in and getting the job done”, Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton said.
It was the Bulls who gave.
“They’re going to take the Lakers lightly, “Thompson said on ESPN’s “Thompson & Trudell.””. “The ball movement is great. It’s definitely something we can learn from”.
With 5:41 left to go in Thursday’s game, Barnes checked in for Festus Ezeli and the lineup was in place.
Curry poured in 28 points and racked up five assists, five rebounds and five rebounds to lead the Warriors to a 100-84 win against the Memphis Grizzlies.
“They scored three layups to start the third quarter and set the tone”, Malone said.
Five players scored in double digits for the defending Atlantic Division champions, off to an 8-6 start that began with five straight wins.
Even though the Warriors travel to mile-high Denver on Sunday to try and tie the best-start record, they might finally be on the downhill side of the quest. Ultimately, Curry and his team have encapsulated everything that the new-look era of the National Basketball Association has emphasized.
Curry, the league’s reigning MVP, has surpassed Paul as the best point guard in the league and he is driving that message home in every match-up between the two All Stars. “We gotta get better (at late-game execution)”. “For us it’s something special. I’m sure they know what’s at stake, but we want to come out and play well and chase history”.
Quote of note: “The schedule is insane right now, in the next two weeks we really have to get a few grit”. We have to grind on the road.
– Going to 81-1 is invalid, says Rodman, because the Bulls reached 72-10 ten years before? With the Warriors facing their toughest rivals and stiffest test of the season, they truly showed their championship pedigree.
