National Basketball Association season: Golden State Warriors winning streak came to an end
Unbeaten no more! The Golden State Warriors tasted their 2015-16 season’s first defeat with a surprising 108-95 loss at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks, ending the NBA-record start at 24.
Which was surprising, because it wasn’t like he was toting an historic winning streak back to the Bay Area in there.
Reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry signed a four-year -million contract with the Golden State Warriors in 2012, lower than the contracts for teammates Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Bogut.
Greg Monroe scored 28 points for the Bucks, who got the all-around effort needed to beat the defending National Basketball Association champions. To compound matters further, Golden State had just squeaked out a grueling double-overtime win over the Boston Celtics the night before at TD Garden.
What did the Warriors do wrong?
Milwaukee has held seven of its last nine opponents under 100 points, including becoming the first team this season to prevent Golden State from reaching triple digits.
Still, to pick at them any more would seem out of line. “With the streak over and all that, hopefully we can get another one going, we can focus on the details of how we’re playing and continue to get better and focus on the things that will help us win a championship let alone regular season games”.
“Y’all thought we were gonna be sad, huh?”
But the Bucks had an answer every time the Warriors threatened to take the lead.
Green even made sure of that, speaking up immediately afterward to the crew that had accomplished so much.
“It’s important for us to realize that hey, that was great. but we’re a quarter of the way through the regular season”, he added.
“Unfortunately it just looks like the schedule and the road trip finally caught up to us tonight”, interim coach Luke Walton told ESPN after the loss. The defeat offers the Warriors a chance to regroup and refocus their attentions on the bigger picture.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, who is on the mend from surgery on his left knee in June, won’t make his season debut on Tuesday when the Cavs face the Celtics, coach David Blatt said. I think now we can settle in more to the season. A raucous Bucks cheering section proved prophetic after wearing green “24-1” shirts to the game. Surprisingly, it was the Milwaukee Bucks who were the spoilers. Which means that Golden State still has something to shoot for and the Lakers record of winning 33 games in a row is still in tack for now. Lacy, a week after being disciplined for breaking curfew, rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown, Rodgers threw for 218 yards and two scores and Clay Matthews got his first sack in two months for the first-place Packers. “We’re competitors, so we’re not complaining about it. It is fun to play that way”, Livingston said.
“It’s probably luck”, Kidd said with a smile when asked if it was design or luck. “I would be cheating the situation, I would be cheating the progress by worrying about a Christmas Day game when we’re not there yet”.
Houston’s James Harden scored 30 points, leading the Rockets to a runaway 126-97 win that condemned the Los Angeles Lakers to a 13th loss in 14 games.
Starting with Wednesday’s visit from the 11-14 Phoenix Suns, there’s little reason to doubt the Warriors won’t string together more wins. So long, streak. It was nice while it lasted.
“Obviously, nobody wanted it to end and you want every night for it to be another notch in that belt for the streak”, Curry said. “Thirty three wins was within our grasp”.
