National Basteball Association Rumors: LeBron James refusing to sign with Cavaliers
The Cavaliers were in need of a quality backup point guard with the ability to score behind starter Kyrie Irving.
According to ESPN.com, Cleveland and James are not now discussing giving the four-time MVP a new contract.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are early winners in free agency, as they’ve locked up some big time players in their quest for a championship.
Thompson is a restricted free agent, and it appeared that he was on his way towards returning to Cleveland. LeBron reportedly will not re-sign with the Cavs until they get a deal done with Tristan Thompson. That’s because everyone knows that the two-time National Basketball Association Champion LeBron James will eventually return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. With Tristan Thompson, who is repped by LeBron’s agent and long-time friend Rich Paul, LeBron is ostensibly negotiating both sides of the deal. Three highly impactful power forwards, though, apparently aren’t enough for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“Tristan should probably be a Cavalier for his whole career”, James stated following a practice round with the team, according to CBS Sports. However, many might not realize it given how some minute buzz there’s been rumors regarding the availability of the game’s best player. “It’s nearly like ‘What more can you ask out of a guy?'”.
Cleveland is hoping to re-sign Thompson and bring back the core of last season’s team that reached the National Basketball Association Finals.
ESPN reported Thompson is nearing an agreement on a deal that will pay him more than $80 million over five years and Iman Shumpert agreed to terms on a contract that will pay him $40 million over four years. However, the talks broke down along the way and none of the parties have released any update regarding the deal.
For Dan Gilbert, this is the cost of doing business with LeBron, who is nominally underpaid in a CBA that was crafted by the owners with the intention of quashing the type of individualistic power he’s been wielding.
