National Football League crafts backup plan for Eagles-Redskins game ahead of Hurricane Joaquin
Per Sosnowski, the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore areas could see “significant rain, wind and coastal flooding” if Joaquin hits that part of the country. Of course, different forecasts have different projections for the weekend’s weather-related events and there is no concrete timetable for when Joaquin is expected to arrive.
Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson did not practice Wednesday, though there’s still a chance he’ll play Sunday against his former team.
The National Football League is trying to configure what the best possibility would be if the hurricane touches land, and now postponing the game is looked at to be the easiest option, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. The two split last year’s regular-season series; the Eagles won the Week 3 game in Philadelphia 37-34, while the Redskins won the Week 16 game in Washington 27-24.
If the game is postponed, it wouldn’t be the first time that weather has caused a game to move. The Big Ten Network cancelled its on-site coverage of Saturday’s Michigan-Maryland game in College Park due to uncertainty about weather conditions.
The teams are scheduled to play at 1 p.m. Sunday at FedEx Field.
