National Football League ‘likely’ to suspend Beckham Jr. one game
Good morning! Here are the plays everybody will be talking about Monday morning.
People aren’t going to remember either Graham Gano’s decisive 43-yard field goal as time expired or the Giants rallying from a 35-7 third-quarter deficit to tie the game on Eli Manning’s fourth touchdown of the game, a 14-yarder to Odell Beckham Jr. with 1:46 to play.
Beckham was matched up against lockdown corner Josh Norman for much of the game, and Beckham began to let his frustrations get the better of him after dropping a long early touchdown pass. Beckham was likely also frustrated with himself after dropping what would have been an easy touchdown pass in the first quarter. Moreover, the chippy game – players from both sides should expect letters from the league as well as fines – came only two days after the NFL announced some $140,000 in fines against the Steelers and Bengals coming out of their game the Sunday before. The Colts need help and it would help if Andrew Luck came back which he might not.
“When they put it on film and the league office takes a real look at it, we’ll see what they can do, because players like that don’t belong in the game”, Norman said.
Added Norman: “It was ridiculous”. I’m not trying to convince you of anything.
“I hope I pulled back the mask on who this guy really is”. I just don’t feel like that’s a part of the game that should be played.
The Giants’ receiver then beat Norman for a game-tying touchdown in the fourth, before stepping over the defender during his celebration.
“He should have, ” Norman said.
“Did you see the punches thrown?”
Instead, Beckham stayed in the game and – Norman’s words – showed a national TV audience his true colors. “Maturity level on him is [that] of a little kid”.
Esiason said he would have ejected Beckham at that point. “It is just unfortunate”. Head coach Tom Coughlin said it was a learning experience for Beckham. “Whatever we have to discuss, we will discuss in private”. “But he did lose his composure”.
“He has got to learn at some point how to deal with some things”, Coughlin said.
“Of course there’s going to be changes”.
The Texans (7-7) took sole possession of the AFC South lead by snapping a two-game losing streak. “I’m telling you, there was no quit in anybody”. Carolina still won, but they learned a valuable lesson in the process: That they are not unbeatable, and perhaps more importantly the team found out where they get weak – when an opposing player goes after a teammate.
– Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter promised he would return to fight after receiving an eight-year ban from the Federation Internationale de Football Association ethics committee Monday for conflict of interest and disloyalty to soccer’s governing body.
Quarterback Cam Newton led the Carolina Panthers to their 18th-straight regular season victory Sunday.
Beckham’s frustration grew visibly when he was held without a first-half catch for the first time in his career.
“The efficiency of the offense is the best it’s been since we’ve been here, ” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said.
“I walked with him”.
“I’m feeling how special it has been and maybe it is for the last time”. I’m going to go in there and get checked out again.
