National Football League officiating head: Odell Beckham Jr. should have been ejected
Beckham will not be eligible to play when the Giants play a must-win game in Minnesota on Sunday night and the wide receiver will be reinstated next Monday.
The NFL heard WR Odell Beckham Jr.’s appeal and upheld his one game suspension for his conduct during the recent game against the Panthers. Beckham reportedly is appealing his suspension Wednesday.
Beckham Jr. sent out a tweet apologizing for his actions, and he later released a statement on the Giants’ official website, which you can read in full here.
Wing was within earshot of Beckham during warmups at MetLife Stadium and said he heard Ball tell Beckham: “I’ll be the reason you don’t play today….”
“I don’t think anybody’s ever been hit by a bat before in a football game ever in my life”, Harper said.
“After the game, putting all the pieces together I think it may have had an impact in the way Odell was acting”, Wing said. He’s a star. I wonder why people are going in that direction.
Beckham got involved in several physical altercations with Panthers cornerback Josh Norman during that game, and he was hit with three 15-yard penalties for misconduct. Wing said a player with a baseball bat (presumably Panthers practice-squad player Marcus Ball. who has been identified in a pregame video holding a bat and talking to Beckham) threatened Beckham.
Beckham certainly isn’t helping the New York Giants’ hopes of reaching the playoffs, which at this point is already slim to none. Norman’s wallet will be $26,000 lighter thanks to some of his own antics during the game, including striking Beckham in the head.
“He was provoked. He was out of control, he was wrong, there’s no doubt about it. You’d like that didn’t happen”.
The Inquisitr reported earlier on Wednesday that Beckham was not the only player to be punished for the events in Sunday’s game.
Rivera said the bat controversy was overblown – pointing out it was a motivational prop used previously by other teams and players – and added the Panthers take the other allegations seriously and will take appropriate action if needed.
Every game, all season I owe Coach Coughlin, our coaches and my teammates an apology.
“Acts that jeopardise the safety of players or expose them to unnecessary risk can not be tolerated”, Hanks said in his letter to Beckham on Monday. “If you want to play, let’s play it straight up, let’s do it the right way”. Norman has also appealed.
In order for Harris to make it, either Darren Sproles of the Philadelphia Eagles, Tyler Lockett of the Seattle Seahawks, Matthew Slater of the New England Patriots or Justin Bethel of the Arizona Cardinals would have to drop out of the game in order for him to get named to the team.
