National Football League star involved in alcohol-fuelled domestic dispute
Police told WEWS that Manziel admitted to drinking alcohol. “It was embarrassing but not serious… and when we talked to the police and they realized everything was alright and I was sober, we went home together and everything is fine”, Manziel tweeted. The two were allowed to leave in Manziel’s vehicle following the incident.
According to the report, the argument progressed when Manziel had possession of Crowley’s cell phone and when he declined to give it back she took his wallet from the center divider and threw it out the window.
“We were aware of the situation”, Browns general manager Ray Farmer said in a statement released by the team. The report also said that police noticed an abrasion on Colleen Crowley’s arm, but it was later determined that Manziel caused that when he attempted to stop her from exiting the moving vehicle.
Manziel spent 70 days in a Pennsylvania rehab facility during the offseason for treatment of an unspecified condition.
Manziel is expected to be the backup quarterback behind McCown for this Sunday’s game against the undefeated Denver Broncos at FirstEnergy Stadium.
His girlfriend asked for her purse and cellphone, when officers asked Manziel to retrieve her belongings, she said, “I didn’t do shit and (expletive) this!”
This latest incident involving Manziel and his girlfriend extends beyond his problems with alcohol, as there is a domestic dispute element.
Police didn’t think Manziel or Crowley were intoxicated to the point where they should be charged, and Crowley told officers that she didn’t want to press charges against Manziel. This image reflects the Cleveland Browns active roster as of Tuesday, June 9, 2015 when this image was taken.
Crowley posted about the incident to her Instagram page Friday evening, saying, “It was just an argument”. As of right now, the Browns are sticking by Manziel but no one knows how long that will be. But Manziel’s National Football League future looked much brighter than it had for months.
