National Football League suspends Giants WR Beckham for 1 game
There was a lot of speculation following Sunday’s Giants-Carolina Panthers game as to what may have set Odell Beckham Jr. off and caused him to act the way he did. Any Beckham appeal will be heard before Sunday’s game.
The NFL listed the suspension as being for “multiple violations of safety-related playing rules” and NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hanks ruled Beckham put opponents at unnecessary risk of injury in a letter to the Giants receiver.

“This “blindside block” was particularly flagrant because Beckham, with a 10-yard running start, had an unobstructed path to his opponent, the position of the opponent was not impacted by any other player, and the contact with the head/neck was avoidable”, the leagues statement said. They repeatedly were shoving and wrestling with each other. They still have a slight chance to win the NFC East and sneak into the postseason, but will need help in addition to winning their last two games of the season. “Beckham also incurred three personal foul penalties Sunday”, ESPN notes.

“The man came 15 yards down the field and just went straight for my head”, Norman said on Sunday.
A former NFL player, Derrick Brooks or James Thrash – jointly hired and paid by the NFL and the NFL Players’ Association – would handle the appeal of any fines or suspensions.
In the National Football League this season, Beckham ranks eighth with 91 catches, third with 1,396 receiving yards and tied for first with 13 touchdown receptions.
Coughlin said wide receivers coach Sean Ryan spoke with Beckham “on a series-by-series basis” about the on-field antics, that he himself had a few interactions with Beckham and that Beckham was not out of control on the sideline between plays.
Manning seemed to direct the blame for the Beckham-Norman feud somewhat equally, but he said “of course” he supported his teammate and that he was “proud” of Beckham for “taking the high road” in his own postgame comments. Beckham will be reinstated on Monday.
