League officials are also asking that fans refrain from bringing bags to games.
When the attacks were over, eight attackers were dead – seven of them in suicide explosions, one killed by security forces in the music venue, Paris prosecutor’s spokeswoman Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre told The Associated Press.
Shooting was also reported at a popular concert hall, The Bataclan, and the France 24 website said dozens of hostages had been taken there.
One of the attackers Friday attempted to enter a Paris soccer match before being turned away and blowing himself up.
Game attendees may carry only clear plastic bags with their belongings into the stadium to expedite security, NBC10’s Monique Braxton reports.
The NFL’s practices, in place before the heightened measures were announced Saturday, have been approved by the Department of Homeland Security since 2008 as “effective antiterrorism technology”, with all clubs using perimeter security and metal detectors.
“We continue to monitor the situation and at this time we have no indication of any security threat to our city or state”.
The National Football League added in a statement that there is no indication American stadiums are in danger.
A moment of silence was observed at Sunday’s games with the French flag shown on video boards, and in a few stadiums the French flag was involved in national color guard details during the anthem.
President Barack Obama was briefed on the attacks by Lisa Monaco, assistant to the president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, the White House said.
