National Football League upholds Odell Beckham’s one-game suspension
Manning returned to practice last week, but only for two days because he was too sore to continue.
Appeals officer James Thrash upheld Beckham’s suspension Wednesday. I dropped the ball on sportsmanship on Sunday. Beckham and Norman had heated exchanges throughout this past Sunday’s game but the most significant infraction, the National Football League said, was “a late helmet-to-helmet hit against a defenseless player”. Wing said the Panthers player told Beckham, “I’ll be the reason you don’t play today…”
“So that disappoints me because if there’s something out there that’s factual, there’s truth, there’s hard evidence, please present it to us as well so we can react accordingly”. Not make something up, but when something rises to the level of unnecessary roughness or unsportsmanlike conduct, we can’t miss those opportunities, because that sets the tone of the entire game. “That is a responsibility I accept and take seriously”.
Beckham apologised to Giants fans and to the team and said he felt a personal responsibility for his “embarrassing” actions. They want to be proud of us, and proud of players like me who represent their team.
“I’ve seen some of the clips, but honestly they’re benign”.
Most importantly he said, don’t act like I did. Numerous parents of those kids have asked since Sunday what they should say to their children about my conduct. “Beckham certainly was wrong, and we’ve said he was wrong from day one”. On Tuesday, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera denied that any members of his team used homophobic language directed toward Beckham, dismissing it as “someone’s attempt at spin control”, though he did add that homophobia is “an important social issue”.
Interesting that there was no apology to Norman.
The punishment for Carolina defensive back Josh Norman is in.
Beat the opposing player on the field. Beckham emerged as the best wideout in his 2014 NFL Draft class.
Any rendering other than upholding the suspension would have gone against every last morsel of integrity involving the situation.
“He embarrassed himself. He embarrassed the Giants”.
Michael Irvin says he’s talked to Beckham, who says he’s been the target of anti-gay slurs by opponents all year long. “And frankly, Tom Coughlin did the same thing”, Craig Carton said on “Boomer & Carton”. “If you are naive enough to think that way, you better do some soul searching”.
So Josh Norman hasn’t gotten away clean in this whole Odell Beckham thing after all.
Ball was captured on video approaching Beckham with the bat during pregame warm-ups before punter Brad Wing stepped between the two players.
But even with Finnegan’s backtracking and Rivera’s denials, Norman’s post-game comments are on the record.
