National Football League upholds Talib suspension
“Those interceptions haven’t interfered with their game”.
“When we face Kansas City, San Diego, Oakland we have to bring our A game, and I think that we will, I know Kansas City’s back is against the wall and they are going to throw their best punches at us, and we have to be prepared for that”, Emmanuel Sanders, wide receiver, said. Manning will also have a chance this weekend to break the passing yards record, which he fell just short of last week at Indianapolis. Manning should get the first record on his first completion next week; he needs just 3 yards to surpass Favre. He’s the third Denver defender to get suspended this season, joining Derek Wolfe and T.J. Ward.
The unnecessary roughness penalty delivered the Colts a first down, allowed them to drain two minutes off the clock and, eventually, seal the victory.
The Broncos lead the National Football League with 16 personal fouls this season.
“I’m convinced after talking with Aqib he had no intention of poking anyone in the eye”, Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said Monday. He’s also turned Wade Phillips loose, making the blitzing Broncos the league’s most aggressive defense. Seems like it. All we can do is hope Ray can get into the backfield, just how he left off. We don’t get caught up in all that.
The biggest question the Broncos have is how to maintain their aggression while throttling back on penalties – especially when a few appear to be controversial, like T.J. Ward’s hit on T.Y. Hilton Sunday. I didn’t feel any pain. “But, hey, that’s not my job”. To his credit, he does not admit that he never should have gotten involved in the situation in the first place.
Nevertheless, not all the infractions can be chalked up to borderline calls. The good news is that Shane Ray is back in action this week. He is considered “day-to-day”.
Talib was guilty of this in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. The Broncos are now 7-1 this season and Kils reports that with Talib out, Bradley Roby likely will get the start for Denver. Last week they took their much needed bye and as a result, they will be coming into Sunday fresh and head coach Andy Reid will have had an extra week of game planning. That was early in the season and we fine tuned a few things since then. Omar Bolden brought a few explosive potential to kickoff returns and showed he could handle punts, as well, with an 83-yard runback against the Colts. The second half slate features four divisional games (another AFC West title is all but certain at this point), plus tests against the Patriots (11/29) and Bengals (12/28), both at home in prime time. “We have to find a way in the second half of the season to turn that around”. Bolden had a few ball security issues fielding punts in training camp, but his explosiveness could be an asset.
The Chiefs sacked Manning three times in the first matchup and limited the Broncos to 61 rushing yards on 22 carries.
