National Football League won’t allow players with domestic violence, sexual assault convictions at combine
In a memo to NFL teams obtained by USA Today, the NFL said players convicted of any of those crimes wouldn’t be invited to “any league-related event”, meaning they’ll miss out on the NFL combine and NFL draft.
The NFL has banned all prospects convicted of a weapons charge, domestic violence or a sexual offense from its scouting combine, according to a league memo.
“It is important for us to remain strongly committed to league values as we demonstrate to our fans, future players, coaches, general managers, and others who support our game that character matters”, Vincent wrote to the teams, per USA Today’s reporting.
The move has been criticized as weak by some, due to the fact that those players can still enter the National Football League, either through the draft or through free agency if they go undrafted.
According to the official terms and conditions, only players who wear adidas cleats are eligible for the money prize.
Players who do have these past convictions can reportedly still hold private workouts, school pro days and more. The 2016 NFL Draft is slated for April 28-30 in Chicago.
Beating Johnson’s time is a tall task, although New York Jets and former Kent State running back Dri Archer came close two years ago with a time of 4.26 seconds.
This year’s combine is scheduled for February 23-29 in Indianapolis.
