National Herald case: Congress cries foul, leads protest march to PM’s residence

New Delhi, Dec 8 Delhi Police detained scores of Congress supporters on Tuesday after they took to the streets in Delhi to protest over the National Herald case.
The government has been attacking Congress for seeking “remedy from Parliament” for “something that happened during a judicial process” and has been suggesting that the main Opposition party was doing it to block the passage of key reform measures including GST, they said.
“Filing such cases show that government’s fear that it can not defeat the Congress, and people like Subramanian Swamy have been kept in the BJP for such acts”, Sibal said.
“We should ask Rahul Gandhi, if he has courage enough, if he has honesty enough, if he has standing as a leader of his political party, he should come to Parliament and give proof of the statement he has made against the judiciary”.
At this, leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said since he was unable to inform the Speaker the reason of his party’s protest in the House yesterday, he would like do inform her today.
“As soon as Narendra Modi became PM, they have targeted Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi”. The tactical shift indicated that Congress wants to take the bull by its horns than letting its opponents set the agenda for it.
“The cause I am fighting for is far greater because that’s where the cancer is”, said the 76-year-old Harvard-trained economist and ex-cabinet minister, whose strident Hindu identity politics has attracted a fanatical following. “The friends of the Congress Party haven’t mustered enough courage to go down and speak in Parliament to place the issues”, he added.
“We will not allow BJP to pursue political vendetta”. In order to sideline the government in Parliament, the Congress has reached out to other opposition parties for support.
During a previous hearing in the case, the trial court had said that the YIL appeared to have been “created as a sham or a cloak to convert public money to personal use” or a special objective vehicle to acquire control over AJL assets worth Rs.2,000 crore.
