National Herald case: Modi targeting opposition; we won’t bow down, says Sonia
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of levelling “false allegations” against them and making “full use” of government agencies to “deliberately target” the Opposition.
Earlier, a Patiala House court granted unconditional bail to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 each.
“We do not want to comment on what happened inside the court but we will like to speak on comments made and drama done outside”. The laws of the nation applies to everyone without any discrimination.
Taking a swipe at Sonia and Rahul Gandhi over their attack on the government, BJP today said it seemed from their remarks that they were not “accused in a case of corruption” but some “freedom fighters” as the party asked Congress to not politicise a court matter. “I do not have the slightest doubt that the truth shall prevail in this matter”, she said. He said that the judiciary was completely independent in India and the BJP Government at the Centre never interfered in its affairs.
“We are not going to be scared of this, and our fight will. The Congress will continue to fight for its principles, its core values and for the rights of the poor”.
Congress and “corruption are made for each other” and when BJP calls for “Congress-mukt” India what it means is corruption-free India, he said. “These people have been trying for long to target us”.
Swamy lodged a private criminal complaint in the Herald issue when he was not in BJP.
“Today, we appeared before the court, with a clear conscience, like any law-abiding citizen of the country should”, Ms. Gandhi told journalists at the party headquarters, flanked by Mr. Gandhi, Dr. Singh and other senior leaders.
