National Herald case: Smriti Irani says Rahul Gandhi’s comment, insult to democracy
“I am the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi”.
During his two day visit to Assam, the Congress vice president said in Guwahati that the central government was having a political vendetta against Congress. “We have full faith in the judiciary (to come clean in the National Herald case)”.
Congress treasurer Motilal Vora, Gandhis’ family friend Suman Dubey and another party leader Oscar Fernandes were also granted exemption.
Mohali: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused the Congress Party of disrupting the parliamentary proceedings for its “personal freedom and interest” and dared the opposition for a debate on the National Herald case.
Now that finally, the High Court has refused to quash lower court’s summons to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in the case, they are stalling the Parliament and calling it a political Vendetta.
Hopes were raised that the long- delayed legislation would see the light of day this year after Mr Modi met Congress president Sonia Gandhi last month and both parties showed signs of compromise. They think they can do this kind of vendetta politics and stop me from asking questions. Why should the Congress Party and its leaders not contest the notice before the Court?
“I was there from 10.30 to 11.30 a.m. We requested the court that the accused Congress leaders want to appear before it and it could give date and time according to its convenience”, Singhvi said.
The Congress government had earlier attacked the ruling BJP government and PMO for carrying out political vendetta in the case.
In the Rajya Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad alleged that a Director of Enforcement Directorate, who had rightly made a decision to close the Herald case, was transferred and a new chief appointed to reopen the case.
“Let them do what they want to do. The Congress has now two options – fight the case in trial court or go to the Supreme Court”, Jaitley said.
Reacting to the development, Mamata reportedly said: “It was a little too much for Sonia and Rahul to appear before the Court”.
He said “who is threatening judiciary we all know” hitting out at PM Modi.
As Congress members did not resume their seats despite repeated pleas, the deputy speaker adjourned the house till 3 p.m.
