National Hockey League roundup: Zuccarello pushes Rangers past Leafs
It has been a while since I have written anything, because we all know what the Maple Leafs season is going to be like and for the West Coast Kings followers, well this season is Stanley Cup Finals or bust. Then the Maple Leafs took a 1-0 lead at 8:23 of the first on the sixth goal of the season by van Riemsdyk, who shot from the slot after receiving a nifty pass from center Nazem Kadri.
The Colorado Avalanche are feeling quite comfortable on the road of late with three straight victories and look to build on that when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
But here we go again with the Leafs in goal. I don’t even know what all transpired, but having those two goals called back, that’s real nice.
A few shaky goaltending by Jonathan Bernier, making his first start after seven appearances in a row by James Reimer, allowed the Rangers to score their second and fourth goal. I have also said that Bernier would be better off playing goal for a Western team instead of in the East against quicker, more run and gun type of teams.
If Reimer continues to perform as the primary starter as he did during Bernier’s stint on IR, Babcock will undoubtedly continue to go to the pending unrestricted free agent, which could potentially cause a quandary later in the season as the trade deadline approaches. The teams split a pair of games last season with each winning at home after regulation time.TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Altitude 2 (Colorado), TSN4 (Toronto)ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (7-9-1): Captain Gabriel Landeskog will sit out the second of a two-game suspension and Mikhail Grigorenko has taken advantage of the extra playing time.
Toronto Maple Leafs and the Vancouver Canucks along with fans sing the Canadian national anthem after taking a moment of silence in support for the France and the City of Paris after recent attacks during first period NHL hockey action in Toronto on Saturday, November 14, 2015. “James is playing good and he’s going to play for awhile now so I just have to be ready to go when my next opportunity comes”.
“I thought he played good”, Babcock said.
The Canucks kept the pressure on, with Alexandre Burrows scoring midway through the third on the power play.
A Canucks turnover just outside the blue line sparked a 2-on-none chance for the Leafs. Tyler Bozak fed Matthias for Toronto’s third goal 1:49 into the third. “So he made a distinct kicking motion going backwards?”
Burrows scored a power-play goal on a deflection 10:36 into the third on a goal that did stand, and the Canucks got another power play with the chance to tie it. Canucks centre Brandon Sutter missed his second game with an undisclosed injury.
