National Night Out program comes to Delray Beach
Scheduled on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign designed to generate local anti-crime efforts and strengthen police-community partnerships.
National Night Out is an extension of the Martinez Neighborhood Policing program that strives for the community to know their police officers and be proactive and interact with them, helping crime prevention.
“We are pleased to see so many Everett residents organizing National Night Out events for their neighbors”, Wendy McClure, coordinator for the Office of Neighborhoods, said.
Peskin said the event started in 1984 with about 400 communities.
It’s aimed at getting neighbors to talk with one another.
An event is being held at at the Santee Trolley Square from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Officers from the Carroll Township Police Department will be having an old-time, family-style cook out with exhibits by local fire departments, law enforcement agencies and prizes.

A Crime Prevention and Community Resource Fair will be held at the Robert Eggers Sr.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, co-sponsored locally by the city of Woodstock Police Department and supported in part by Target, a national corporate sponsor. Police officers will also be attending some of those Neighborhood Watch Groups. “Anyone, particularly if you want to get to know a little bit about law enforcement and get to know the people that protect your community”, Schwertfeger said.
