National Parks Curbing E-Cigarette Use
The policy, effective immediately, prohibits the use of electronic smoking devices in all areas where tobacco smoking is banned in the country’s 408 national parks, according to the Washington Times.
If e-cigarettes are starting to feel picked on, the National Park Service recently took issue with personal drones too.
Little is know about the long-term health effects of inhaling electronic cigarette vapor, and public health experts and researchers offer vastly different estimates on potential impacts of the devices, which can be customized to preferred vapor density and nicotine content.
The city of Roswell is set to vote on a similar ordinance Wednesday night.
Is protecting the health of Americans a duty of the National Park Service? So, when you see a no smoking sign in a national park, that means no vaping either. During its first reading, only one council member voted against it. The council meeting is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
But, advocates for e-cigarettes are unhappy with the announcement.
The report claims that it is unclear if electronic cigarettes have ever caused a wildfire, but the numbers show normal cigarettes are a major hazard outdoors. “Currently, there are no e-cigarettes approved by FDA for therapeutic uses so they cannot be recommended as a cessation aid”.
“Outdoor smoking bans in parks can at least somewhat be justified by the risk of fires, but vapor products pose no more of a fire risk than a cellphone battery”, he says.
Regular cigarettes and vaping are restricted to within 25 feet of entrances to all public buildings. “This behavior is shameful and any enforcement of the ban will constitute a great misuse of government resources”. A recent government-funded study conducted at 10 Los Angeles high schools suggests that teens who use e-cigarettes are more likely than others to later smoke conventional cigarettes.
