National poll finds Trump, Clinton locked in virtual tie
The two candidates won’t share the stage but will appear back-to-back to answer questions in front of current and former military members. She quickly faced a barrage of questions about her email use at the State Department, where she used a personal email address and a private server. But she defended her support for US military intervention to help oust a dictator in Libya, despite the chaotic aftermath.
The New York businessman, who has struggled at times to demonstrate a command of foreign policy, also seemed to acknowledge he does not now have a plan to address cyber security or the Islamic State group. “For this reason, we support Donald Trump’s candidacy to be our next commander in chief”.
For Clinton’s part, she tried to smother that line of attack by arguing that in the battle against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), she would not add to the troops already on the ground.
Kaine also claims that the Islamic State is rooting for a Trump victory in November. That’s been key to the grumbling about #NeverTrumpers: Supposedly they’re the critical difference in the race because they’re denying Trump the Republican votes he needs to match Hillary’s Democratic support.
The Clinton camp wasted no time in trying to exploit those weaknesses, releasing an attack ad that calls out Trump’s “continued disrespect for veterans and military families” including his comments about Sen. And for the first time, he opened the door to granting legal status to people living in the USA illegally who join the military.
Kirk, who served on President Barack Obama’s cabinet, doesn’t think the endorsement will equal votes either, but said it’s significant.
Jack O’Donnell, who served as one of Trump’s Atlantic City casino executives, has seen how this works out, at least in the business world.
The conflicting messages came as the candidates prepared to appear at an MSNBC forum Wednesday night on national security. It’s not as if military generals are just sitting around, eager to destroy the terrorist group, waiting for a president to ask them what to do.
Clinton’s interview, set to air Thursday night on Israeli Channel 2 TV, comes as both candidates worked to tout their national security credentials just two months ahead of the election. Both candidates believe they have the upper hand, with Clinton contrasting her experience with Trump’s unpredictability and the Republican arguing that Americans anxious about their safety will be left with more of the same if they elect Obama’s former secretary of state.
The Republican presidential nominee has been aggressively courting veterans this week. They also criticized the real estate mogul’s economic policies, saying that “his protectionism would likely force the USA into trade wars, increase the deficit, and sink the US economy back into a recession”. Republican Donald Trump has pulled closer in both national and some state polls in the past week. He also promised 36 Marine battalions, 350 Navy ships, and 1,200 fighter jets.
The defense sequester originated in 2011 when Congress failed to reach a budget compromise, resulting in severe cuts to the military, as well as many other branches of the federal government. “They view him as a danger and a risk”. Make it a four-way poll with Johnson and Stein, and nearly 20 percent of Americans chose someone other than Clinton or Trump or were simply undecided.
He’s abandoned positions he’s taken in previous years – asserting now that he’s always opposed military interventions that he’s publicly supported in the past – and has reversed himself within days on issues like the deportation of 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States.
