National Weather Service issues wind chill advisory for McHenry, Lake counties

“Temperatures will primarily be subzero through Tuesday morning with periods of unsafe wind chills”, the weather service reported. Wind chill temperatures during the day will generally be in the single digits to just below zero. The overnight low will dip to about 13 below.
Now, that being said, we’re not really cold enough here in Kentucky to have to worry about immediate frostbite. Keeping warm blankets in vehicles is also a helpful precaution to take in case of emergency.
“With dry air, they do need water, even though it’s cold”, Melton said. Either way, it’s dangerously cold. “Dress appropriately; check on your neighbors”. In Herkimer County, the advisory continues until 10:00 am Friday. A Wind Chill Warning meanwhile goes into effect at midnight Sunday for Osage and Wabaunsee counties and lasts through noon Monday.
The National Weather Service says wind chills will range from 25 to 40 below zero at times.
That puts Boston on track to break another record, one that’s nearly 100 years old.
The Chicago area is drying out after snow Friday night, but bitter cold air remains Saturday.
And there is no end in sight.
Bitterly cold air moves in Saturday, dropping our temperatures into the single digits by afternoon as northerly winds increase to 10-15 miles per hour.
A weak weather system, called in Alberta clipper, will race through New England on Saturday, with some light snow possible.
Temperatures have to moderate a bit next week, and we may get a better shot at some snow, or a wintry mix, by about Thursday.
