Nationals pitcher Jonathan Papelbon suspended for remainder of season for
The New York Mets clinched the National League East title earlier in the day on Saturday with a 10-2 win in Cincinnati. Will Papelbon, who is signed for million next season, be on the team?
“He’s under contract”, Rizzo said about Papelbon.
Unfortunately, there aren’t enough to provide a passing grade on the Nationals’ season. Harper had hit a fly ball to left field and did not run full speed out of the batter’s box.
On the downside, Harper is viewed as an immature player. “I will leave it at that”, Rizzo said. “We will make all of those decisions” about his future once the year is over. The two argued and Papelbon decided that would be a good time to try and strangle his teammate during the game.
“It is not going to happen for us this year”, Williams said of the playoffs. After the game, both players downplayed the incident to reporters. “It is something we need to do”.
Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper and Jonathan Papelbon fight in the dugout in the eighth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies, Sunday, in Washington. Williams said he had no issue with that. “Emotions show and with expectations come great responsibility, to do it and do it correctly”, Williams said. If he’s upset about something, everybody can see it. That’s important for him. “I have no problem with the way he plays”. “Yes, but there are many instances where everybody could in the course of a season”.
Papelbon verbally and physically attacked Harper Sunday when he perceived a lack of effort on Harper’s part during a flyout. Harper, who starred at Las Vegas High School and the College of Southern Nevada, stopped in the dugout, looked at Papelbon and yelled back, saying at one point, “Let’s (bleeping) go”, before the altercation started.
Harper was not happy with Papelbon and it escalated from there. “It’s something that, if you’re in a bar or if you’re in the dugout, or if you’re anywhere, if someone grabs your neck your first reaction is to do what I did, I guess”. For me, I can’t allow that to happen in the middle of a game. It should be noted that DeRosa shared a clubhouse with Harper in Washington in 2012.
The Seattle Mariners named former Los Angeles Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto as their new executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations.
On Monday, Papelbon was suspended for four games without pay for his fight with Harper.
After the game, however, Papelbon shrugged off the incident. Papelbon’s suspension seems like a fitting end for a team that should have achieved much more.
That applies to Williams’ status, too, Rizzo said. “We can’t be fighting or anything like that”.
“I just want to play every single day and when I’m out of the lineup, it’s not fun”, Harper said. Papelbon was responsible for five of the runs, two of them earned, and left to a rousing chorus of boos. “I could have gotten more information.”. “That lies with me”. “He made a mistake”. The team-ordered suspension will begin on Thursday, after Papelbon first serves a three-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball.
