Nationals place Stephen Strasburg on disabled list
Due to the Washington Nationals having the off day Thursday, they were able to go with Roark on regular rest today.
He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fifth when back-to-back-to-back, two-out walks loaded the bases in front of Bryce Harper, who hit a fly to center that fell just short of the center field fence, much to Harper’s frustration.
A victory Sunday would give Milwaukee its first sweep of the Nationals since taking a three-game series at Miller Park on May 23-25, 2011.
Nelson, who is winless in his past five starts, gave up one hit through five innings.
Robinson made it a 3-0 game with a two-run shot in the eighth off Michael Blazek.
Washington starter Stephen Strasburg was hoping to make his scheduled start Sunday afternoon but instead was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an upper back strain, the Nationals announced.
The official scorer originally charged Milwaukee second baseman Scooter Gennett with an error on a sharp grounder hit by Ben Revere with two outs in the third.
Nelson, who thought he still had a no-hitter intact, was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the fifth. Villar ended up on third with a triple. After that, the Nationals began to chip away at the Milwaukee lead getting two runs in the fourth inning, and one in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Martin Maldonado hit a pinch hit home run in the 9th inning but it wasn’t enough for the Crew.
In a bonus Nats-themed “Fun with Arbitrary End Points” segment: Nationals’ relievers, as a group, have a 0.63 ERA, one walk and 16 Ks.in the last six games, going back to June 19th.
To further support his star-studded season, Strasburg has fanned 118 batters in contrast to 24 walks. Baker says he is day to day. That could be Giolito, who last pitched June 22.
The Mets’ rotation for the series has already been set, as Noah Syndergaard will start Monday and will be followed by Matt Harvey and Steven Matz.
Brewers: Chase Anderson (4-7, 5.13 ERA) will take the mound as the Brewers open a three-game series at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
