Nationwide “A Day Without a Woman” Protest, Rallies Happening in WNY
The “Day Without a Woman” strike has been organized to coincide with International Women’s Day taking place in more than 30 countries that day.
The day’s protests also highlighted the gender pay gap – as protesters called for economic equality – and other issues.
Other signs included, “Nevertheless, she persists”, and, “Women hold up half the sky”.

In the USA, spokeswoman Cassady Findlay said organizers of A Day Without a Woman were inspired by the Day Without an Immigrant protest held last month. Which is an odd point to make because (1) every one agrees with this and (2) the left advocates for policies that essentially eliminate women from public life and society. Findlay said it is important for white women to be in solidarity with minority women. Hundreds were expected to attend a “Women Workers Rising” rally at the U.S. Department of Labor building.
A day “without shopping” doesn’t mean much to women without disposable income.
In the Bay Area, rallies are planned for San Francisco’s Justin Herman Plaza from noon to 5 p.m. and in front of San Jose City Hall from noon to 5 p.m.
The local Women’s March Florida: Tallahassee/Panhandle Chapter planned a vigil and strike for Wednesday night at the Capitol.
“Resist Trump, stop the gag, resist Trump stop the gag”, the crowd chanted.
Wednesday’s strike is reminiscent of “A Day Without Immigrants”, which took place on February 16.
“As a women owned business, with numerous female employees, we are closing on Wednesday March 8 in support of ‘A Day Without A Woman, ‘” both businesses announced on Twitter on Monday.
Schools in Alexandria, Va., Chapel Hill-Carrboro, N.C. and Prince George’s County, Md. closed for the day on Wednesday because off widespread absences from staff participating in the strike. They think feminism is about making women more powerful and that’s just absurd. “Strike houses” also are opening their doors to women striking, encouraging them to spend the day together.
