NATO strike kills 7 Afghan troops
A USA airstrike has reportedly killed at least 10 Afghan soldiers after two American helicopters opened fire on an army checkpoint in Logar province early Monday. He said five troops were also wounded as an army checkpoint was hit.
Provincial policemen fundamental Mohammad Daud Ahmadzai found that in fact eight associates of the Afghan National Army (Tai) missing their ealier future and a number of other others were actually injured inside the airstrike. He put the death toll slightly higher.
The Taliban group is active in the area, and fighters are known to transit through Baraki Barak.
“The checkpoint caught fire”, AFP quoted district governor Mohammad Rahim Amin as saying. The result of the investigation for that incident revealed a lapse on the part of the American forces, specifically in the area of communication and in understanding the capabilities of the aircraft used, AFP reported.
The news comes a week after a suicide bombing occurred outside of a USA military base in Afghanistan’s southeastern province of Khost claiming the lives of 33 people, 27 of them were women and children, according to officials.
The U.S. and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces concluded their combat mission at the end of previous year and Afghan troops have since taken control of the country’s security, which has caused an increase in Afghan casualties.
The Afghan army does have some attack helicopters.
In January, Afghan soldiers accidentally fired mortars at a wedding party that killed 17 women and children in the southern province of Helmand.
