‘Natural Born’ Issue for Ted Cruz Is Not Going Away
Donald Trump and Ted Cruz speak during a commercial break in the Fox Business Network Republican presidential debate in North Charleston, SC, Jan. 14.
After giving Donald Trump a friendly warning about his attacks on Ted Cruz, Mark Levin got pretty fired up on his radio show tonight about how Trump keeps attacking his rival on “stupid” and unimportant issues.
And on a recent Friday evening, Trump’s main campaign office in suburban Des Moines was shuttered by 7 p.m. Three miles up the road, Cruz’s headquarters hummed with the sounds of more than 30 volunteers placing calls at tables festively decorated with potted poinsettias.
During an interview with George Stephanopoulos on last Sunday’s episode of This Week, Donald Trump said that he doesn’t think Cruz has a “great chance” of winning and added that he is a “nasty guy”, no one likes him, and that it is hard to make deals with a guy like him. Campaign officials say they have felt no direct pressure from party leaders to drop out before the first two contests. “And I think that’s very hypocritical, I’ll be honest with you, I think it’s very, very hypocritical”.
In regards to their tight battle when it comes to the polls, Cruz stated that Trump is a bit “rattled” with the results most especially in some areas wherein Cruz would take the lead, “I guess as conservatives continue to unite behind our campaign as his poll numbers continue to go down, that seems to be – he’s a little testy”.
58% of those polled by YouGov, said they still believe that Cruz is eligible to be president, despite being born in Canada, according to the poll.
“He’s a nasty guy”, Mr. Trump said on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”. “Unlike Donald, I didn’t inherit millions of dollars”, defending his loans from Goldman Sachs and CitiBank. “I’m going to create borders”, he said.
“When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than NY”, he said. “Don’t listen to what any of us say on the campaign trail, but rather follow the biblical principle, ‘You shall know them by their fruits.’ Ask what have they done”. “In the rest of America, people know exactly what that means”.
Cruz has campaigned in the Granite State fewer times than Trump.
The two men had an odd political detante that ended last week, when Cruz forcefully swung back against Trump’s weeks-long questioning of his birthplace and religion.
Bizarrely, though, they’re saying they’re insulted and calling for an apology from Cruz.
