Naturalized Afghanistan citizen sought in Manhattan blast
NY police have released a photo of a man wanted for questioning over the bombing that rocked a Manhattan neighbourhood.
Linden is a neighboring community immediately southwest of Elizabeth, New Jersey – Rahami’s hometown, where Federal Bureau of Investigation officers overnight found and defused a nest of bombs planted at the train station.
Ahmad Khan Rahami has lived at that address in Elizabeth, which is above a fried chicken store.
His reported arrest came about four hours after the Federal Bureau of Investigation released his mugshot, calling him “armed and dangerous” in text message alerts sent to millions of people in the NY area.
In light of new evidence, he tells CNN, “I would not be surprised if we did have a foreign connection to the act”.
A Tumblr page titled “I’m the NY bomber” that claimed to be from a gay man upset over social justice issues has been deemed a hoax.
Cuomo said that, while the bombs discovered in Manhattan and New Jersey were not identical, there were “certain commonalities” among the chemicals and technologies used.
Governor Cuomo told national broadcaster MSNBC that authorities had no information suggesting further attacks, but that people should be ready.
Late Sunday night the FBI confirmed in a statement that law enforcement officers had stopped a vehicle and detained five people for questioning in the investigation.

The Manhattan blast came hours after a pipe bomb exploded in Seaside Park, New Jersey, shortly before thousands of runners were due to participate in a charity 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors. But the race had not yet begun, and no one was injured.
Saturday’s explosion shook New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, packed with restaurants, subway stations, shops, businesses and art galleries, and sent panicked people scrambling for cover.
Elizabeth mayor Christian Bollwage said the devices were found in a bag in a rubbish bin by two men who reported seeing wires and a pipe coming out of the package. CNN reported the explosive devices were found in a in a garbage can outside a local bar, about 500 feet away from the train station.
No injuries were reported and it is unclear if there was any link to the incidents in NY.
The municipality directly borders one of the busiest airports in the country and sits just across a narrow body of water from the New York City border.
