NAU invites public to join MLK day festivities
Yonkers: A Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebratory dinner will be held at Castle Royal in Yonkers at 6 p.m., kicking off the 75 anniversary of Nepperhan Community Center. State and federal offices are closed on Monday.
The march will end at New Race Creek Baptist Church, where a service will be led by the Rev. Lynn Owens. Classes will begin Tuesday, Jan. 17. New, non-perishable food items and toiletries are being collected for the Shiloh Baptist Church Food Pantry.
CHAPEL HILL – An African-American man and a white man connected by slavery will share their story during United Church of Chapel Hill’s Adult Forum at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 15. Inspirational expressions associated with Martin Luther King’s work and vision. Two recently renovated galleries will be open during the museum’s hours of 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. The fort is at 630 S. Oakes St.

The kickoff event is a breakfast and freedom march at 9 a.m. Monday in the Marshall White Center, 222 28th St. The service will start at 7:30 p.m. A program showcasing student talents and several speakers, including President Cheng, will take place after the walk at 1:30 p.m.
The UW-Madison MLK Day Celebration is a collaboration between the Morgridge Center for Public Service, the Center for the First-Year Experience, the Multicultural Student Center and Pathways Student Academic Services.
On Wednesday and Thursday, students from Mount Stuart Elementary and Kittitas Elementary schools will come to campus to learn more about King during the “Make a Difference Day”. Those who would like to attend the training sessions must register online. The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Marcus King of Disciple Central Community Church.
Emceed by Pittsburgh-based artist Darrell Kinsel, the event will also feature rousing performances by 1Hood Media, the Alumni Theater Company, Hope Academy, and the Trevor C. Dance Collective. Day with a full slate of community service activities and workshops focusing on an array of subjects related to King’s teachings.
