Navjyot Sidhu quits RS amid speculation that he might join AAP
Cricketer-turned-comedian and politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife on July 18 surprised their adversaries, besides the BJP and its alliance partner Akali Dal, by suddenly resigning as Rajya Sabha MP and Punjab MLA respectively.
There are reports that Sidhu is all set to join the Aam Aadmi Party in the next two weeks with his wife Navjot Kaur to follow him later.
Alluding to Navjot Singh Sidhu’s resignation from Rajya Sabha, Mr Kejriwal tweeted that honest people are feeling “suffocated” within BJP due to “dictatorial attitude” of its top leadership.
Confirming Navjot Singh Sidhu’s resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), his wife Navjot Kaur on Tuesday said that he was not ready for any other option other than to serve Punjab.
On a day when AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal was seeking penance at the holiest of Sikh shrines, the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, a political drama was unfolding in New Delhi that could change the course of Punjab politics ahead of the state assembly elections. This was taken up by (former Punjab CM) Amarinder Singh as a propoganda.even (victim’s) family agreed that Navjot Sidhu did not touch that man. The most notable among those who may join the AAP is Navjot Singh Sidhu.
In a brief statement, Sidhu did not hide his disappointment with the BJP and declared he took RS nomination at the behest the Prime Minister.
When he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha, Sidhu felt that he would be given a berth in the Union Cabinet, but when S S Ahluwalia was chosen instead of him, Sidhu started cribbing that he was the right claimant.
On Monday, Kejriwal said he “salutes” Sidhu for his “courage” in quitting the Rajya Sabha.
When asked about Congress’ remark that its doors were open for Sidhu, Aashutosh said, “What stand does the Congress party have in Punjab”.
She said that Navjot Sidhu had not betrayed the party. “But it is not definite when will he join the party”, said Ashutosh.
Mr. Sidhu, 52, now a television commentator, was among the six persons from various walks of life nominated by President Pranab Mukherjee to the Rajya Sabha on April 22 this year. She also added that AAP is another alternative in the state Punjab. Then swearing by his children, he said he won’t take support from the Congress.
All eyes will now be on the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab, and who can be more opportunistic than Sidhu.
