Navy helicopter crashes in river
A Navy MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter crashed in the James River on Tuesday morning; the three crew members aboard were rescued, the Navy said in a statement.
According to news station WKTR, a fishing vessel discovered the crash and made a mayday call shortly after 11 a.m.
The helo assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 2 was on a routine training mission, the Navy said in a release.
Newport News Police say officers are at the Huntington Park Boat Ramp. Local hazardous materials teams were monitoring for spilled fuel, and state and local agencies were blocking off the river to allow space for the Navy investigation and eventual recovery of the helicopter.
The MH-60S was based at Norfolk Navy Station Chambers Field.

Three servicemen have been transported to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth on Tuesday with non life-threatening injuries after a helicopter crash, Navy officials said. He also didn’t have any details about the helicopter or what caused it to crash.
