NBA All-Rookie Team announced
NBA Rookie of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns and Latvian center Kristaps Porzingis were unanimous selections to the NBA All-Rookie First Team announced Thursday by the league.
The league made the announcement Monday, giving the Wolves back-to-back honorees after forward Andrew Wiggins took the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy last season. But that was well behind the 71 first-team votes awarded Philadelphia’s Jahlil Okafor, who received the fewest first-team votes of anybody on the All-Rookie first team.
Justise Winslow, D’Angelo Russell, Emmanuel Mudiay, Myles Turner and Willie Cauley-Stein were named to All-Rookie Second Team.
Booker becomes the 13th player in franchise history to earn All-Rookie honors, the ninth named to the First Team, and the first since Amar’e Stoudemire was named to the First Team in 2002-03. Two points were given for first-team votes and one point for second team. 422 from the field. That was an achievement unto itself, as Towns put forth one of the greatest rookie seasons ever, and Porzingis was the clear No. 2. The fourth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft was the highest-scoring Knicks rookie since Mark Jackson in 1988. Porzingis, of Latvia, was third among rookies in scoring (14.3), second in rebounding (7.3) and first in blocks (1.86).
Voters selected five players for the first team and five for the second team, regardless of position. In all, the Heat have had five rookies named first team in their 28 seasons: Sherman Douglas, 1990; Steve Smith, 1992; Caron Butler, 2003; Dwyane Wade, 2004; and Beasley.
