NBA Champion Golden State Warriors Visit President Obama at the White House
President Barack Obama remarked that the Warriors and he have followed very similar paths, offering some humor as he compared their path to that of his own administration.
The two also discussed a more serious matter – gun control, as Obama has made curbing gun violence a priority. Curry’s 51 points tied the Verizon Center record for most individual points, matching Michael Jordan and Gilbert Arenas.
You couldn’t blame Curry for wanting to escape.
“Steph was using the excuse of Secret Service being intimidating for why he lost the match”.
Obama, a lifelong Chicago Bulls fan, gave a speech expressing his admiration and respect for the “Splash Brothers, ‘ NBA MVP Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, last years” NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala and the rest of the Warriors organisation, before being gifted a number 44 Warriors jersey by Head Coach Steve Kerr. Curry, Obama said, was “clowning” the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night when he racked up 51 points, including 25 in the first quarter. “Now, it is rare to be in the presence of guys from the greatest team in National Basketball Association history”, he explained to the team that many rank as one of the best all time.
‘So we’re pretty lucky today that we’ve got one of those players in the house – Steve Kerr, ‘ Obama said, referring to the Warriors coach, who also played on those Bulls teams.
These teams haven’t played since Wednesday, when Curry, Westbrook and Durant showcased their star power.
“They’re the kind of people you want representing a city, representing the National Basketball Association, and the kind of people that you want our kids to be rooting for”, Obama said. If the Thunder fail to win this year, there is a big possibility that Durant may go to another team to chase his title dreams. The entire team looked fresh out of a GQ photoshoot.
The Warriors are now 45-4. Visiting the White House was just icing on the cake. Believe it or not, he’s played even better this campaign.
“Just for what President Obama means for our country, the story of his journey and for him to be up on the podium and acknowledge our accomplishments, talk a little bit about us and our personalities, and stuff that he knows about, it’s just surreal, something I’m going to remember for a long time”, he said. “It was a fun night, and a fun day today as well”.
Bogut tweeted before the visit, saying he was excited about trying the White House coffee. According to Green, Obama even told him to watch his mouth.
There are very few words left to describe the season the Golden State Warriors are having, spearheaded by Stephen Curry who might not be the best player in National Basketball Association history, but he’s certainly putting together one of the most impressive offensive campaigns ever seen in this league.
