NBC to unveil new theme song for ‘Sunday Night Football’
The original theme song was a take on the Joan Jett song, “I Hate Myself for Loving You”, and was previously performed for SNF by Pink and Faith Hill.
In the past, fans could enjoy Carrie Underwood belting out the lyrics as she let everyone know that she’s been “waiting all day for Sunday night” but now she’ll be singing a different tune.
“Oh, Sunday Night” is set to the music of “Somethin’ Bad”, a chart-topping duet from Underwood and Miranda Lambert which was released in 2014 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
SNF executive producer Fred Gaudelli confirmed the change Monday, according to the Associated Press. He notes, “When we got into the recording studio in Nashville, the song instantly came to life, and will be a dynamic addition to our show”. Consider it a coup for Underwood, who now has more ownership over them than either of her predecessors.
Carrie Underwood is staying on board for her fourth season with the Sunday Night Football crew, but her famous pre-game routine is getting a bit of a change-up. According to the Associated Press, it will be called, “Oh, Sunday Night”, and will premiere on September 11 when the Patriots meet the Cardinals.
“It has such a great stomp-clap, a “We Will Rock You” kind of feel to it”, said Underwood. “This is such a high energy song”.
The country superstar tells the AP the new version of her song starts off “a little quiet” and builds up, and there’s an added bridge to go along with the intro visuals.
