NC State Parks offering guided hikes on New Year’s Day
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has scheduled First Day Hikes at six Nebraska parks on New Year’s Day, part of a larger effort of the America’s State Parks alliance.
State parks Director Mike Murphy says the hikes will usher in a year of anniversary events planned throughout the state.
On Jan. 1, more than 70 state parks and natural areas around Texas will host First Day Hikes to help visitors commit to their New Year’s resolution to drop a few pounds and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
Programs include a snowshoe waterfall hike, pet-friendly treks, crossing one of the world’s longest pedestrian bridges, history tours and walks through winter woodlands.
“This is something that is happening in all 50 states, and previous year over 70,000 miles were hiked in state parks across the country”.
Participants of all ages are welcome, unless otherwise noted with suggested minimum age. Most parks will also provide refreshments, thanks to a donation from the Washington State Employees Credit Union and the Manufactured Home and Recreational Vehicle Association.
Meet-up is for the hike is at 9 a.m.at the Dinosaur Trackway Trailhead. Meet at 11 a.m.at the park office.
The 3-mile hike will start at Old Rock Cafe adjacent to the park entrance and meander along the curvy entrance road, finishing at the base of Chimney Rock.
Lake Sylvia: Learn about the history, native plants and animals of the area. Meet at 10:30 a.m.at the park’s main bulletin board. Meet at 10:30 a.m.at Shelter 2. Meet at 10 a.m.at the Cornet Bay boat launch. All hikes begin at 10 a.m. and leave from in front of the Ranger House. Meet at the CCC cabin. Take a nature walk, beginning at 10 a.m. and/or a beach walk at noon.
