NC university shooting: 1 killed, 1 injured, gunman at large

Winston Salem State University officials say one person is dead and another was injured in an early morning shooting.

A University spokesman for Winston-Salem State University said they do not think the gunman was student.

It said police were looking for the suspect and that counseling services would be available to students on Sunday. Lot W is located between the Wilson Hall and Gleason-Hairston Terrace residence halls.

The campus was placed on lockdown for approximately three hours before it reopened at 4:30am.

Winston-Salem city police and the campus police are investigating the shooting.

Students were told via the school’s Twitter account to stay inside and to secure themselves in a room.

The gunman was described as a male, with the school calling on witnesses with any information to come forward.
