Nebraska Cornhuskers game at Miami could help shape their season
There is plenty of history between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Miami. Vernon Croy is also recognized as one of the best sharp football handicappers picking apart the Vegas lines during the NFL and college football season. He got beat a few times , penalized more than once, and fell down at least once. He wanted him to play.
The Huskers no longer have Randy Gregory anchoring the defensive line, but Vincent Valentine Jr. and Maliek Collins are both super-capable of causing some disruption.
Saturday will begin a stretch of tough opponents for the Hurricanes. I did not realize how they felt except through time, hearing them talk.
Riley said playing in the rain requires just a little more focus.
It’s a measuring stick if you will, on the season and the program.
While a win won’t bring any real prominence or prestige to whoever comes out victorious, both programs need the “W” as their rebuilds continue.
“They’re good”, Riley said of Williams and Maurice. & Maliek Collins.
Of course, the Huskers’ offense will be the biggest, strongest and fastest they’ve faced this year. Where the ‘Canes might have the most success, is out on the perimeter. But for that to happen, Trevor Darling and Kc McDermott/Sunny Odogwu cannot have breakdowns in protection at the T spot. Gerry is a heady player who can force turnovers if left unaccounted for. That the Nebraska team could be labeled “boring”, for instance, is not really a cause for concern: it is, after all, a school mired on the prairie, far away from blue chip talent, and whose defining motif is that its defense wears plain black jerseys.
The Miami Hurricanes are coming from a 44-20 win over Florida Atlantic last week.
In his first two games of the season, Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya has had very modest numbers to beginthe season. This new system is more of a “bend but don’t break style” that puts cornerbacks on an island. But the Hurricanes have struggled to generate pressure with out blitzes anyhow. Should be a close game, but Miami should come out on top in a shootout at home.
That’ll be something the Huskers will want to improve upon overall as the season progresses. One of his favorite targets in the passing game is Jordan Westerkamp, who has ten catches for 138 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Remember Nathan Peterman? In 2013, Butch Jones named him Tennessee’s starting quarterback before the Volunteers’ game against rival Florida, replacing Justin Worley one week after a 59-14 loss at Oregon.
“I understand the great history of this game and some of the historical ramifications of the game against Miami being played for national championships”, first-year Huskers coach Mike Riley said. He’s a step down from Abdullah, but a solid player that will take it to Miami if the defense isn’t set.
It was designed to gain more than 7 yards, to move the chains on a fourth-down try and get the Cougars closer to one of the two satisfactory results: either a touchdown to win the game or a field goal to tie it. “But I think he has some decent running ability”. Nebraska-Miami is among five matchups pitting the conferences head-to-head Saturday, joining Illinois-North Carolina, Northwestern-Duke, Virginia Tech-Purdue and Pittsburgh-Iowa.
