Nebraska releases school test scores

Common ACT scores for the Class of 2015 barely budged in English, math, studying and science, whereas writing scores in Illinois and the nation dipped to the bottom in a decade, suggesting that many graduates might have a troublesome time with college-level writing assignments.
Althoff’s average was 22.6, but vice principal Pam Schumacher said the top 30 percent scored a 27.7.
The average ACT score in Louisiana has increased by 0.2 points, marking the greatest gain in the country, according to new data released Tuesday. Those results for last year’s 11th-graders will be reported later in fall. In the last five years, Memphis has become a battleground for state and local efforts and investments to turn around a high concentration of low-performing schools.

Kentucky’s 2015 high school graduates performed best in English, with 60 percent of the students meeting the ACT college-readiness benchmark.
About 1,500 more students took the test and a higher percentage of test-takers were minority students. The national average is 21.
Ninety-three percent of this year’s 11,957 graduating seniors from both public and private schools took the ACT. “Our challenge is to keep this momentum going so that our students can be prepared for whatever they decide to do after high school”.
The ACT, commonly used in the Midwest for college admissions and scholarships, tests students in English, math, reading and science reasoning.
A total of 124,764 Texas seniors took the ACT, which measures competency in core subject areas.
They use that to determine a “college ready” ACT score on each test section that indicates the student has a 50 percent chance of getting a B or better – and a 75 percent of a C or better – in each college course. The district’s composite score was 23.1. But the class of 2015 will form a “good, solid baseline from which we can move forward”, he said.
“It is estimated that students and parents have been able to save more than $1,000 per student by avoiding non-credit bearing remedial course tuition at the college level”, Holliday said.

The reading benchmark of 20 also saw an increase, from 46 percent in 2013 to 48 percent in 2014 to 49.5 percent in 2015. Utah’s school population, however, increased by only 1.7 percent.
Mayville – 21.3, 113 students enrolled, 71 tested, 62.8 percent tested. The number of black test-takers increased from 4,452 to 4,540. Sixty-two percent of Arkansas students made the English benchmark, down from 63 percent previous year. Nationally, the average fell from 20.9 to 20.8.
