Nebraska’s Unemployment Unchanged in October

Bolstered by increases in service-related jobs, Florida’s unemployment rate inched down from 5.2 percent in September to 5.1 percent in October, according to figures released Friday by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

L.A.’s October unemployment rate was down from 6.5 percent in September, posting its lowest level since April 2008, according to figures from the state Employment Development Department.

Of particular note is that employment in the manufacture of computers and electronic parts is more than 5 percent lower now than a year ago, with the state shedding 1,900 jobs in that sector.

In October 2015, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 40 states and the District of Columbia, decreased in 9 states, and was unchanged in Delaware.

After rising for about two years, the state’s labor force number has been declining since May.

The number of people continuing to receive jobless benefits fell by 2,000 to 2.18 million in the week ended november 7. Jobs in educational and health services rose 5,400. Moreover, the local economy hasn’t rebounded to the same extent as other areas of Colorado.

Of the 11 major population centers in the county, Rio Dell reported the highest unemployment rate of 6.9 percent with Arcata following at 6.3 percent.

“Last month’s preliminary estimate of 4,200 jobs added has been revised upward to reflect a gain of 8,000 private sector jobs in September”.

On the up side, the state added 6,400 government jobs and 2,200 construction jobs.

Peter Gioia, economist for the CT Business and Industry Association, said the 24,000-job increase in a year is disappointing.

“We have now reached our pre-recession unemployment rate, a new and important milestone”, Malloy said in a statement.

The Arkansas unemployment continued to tick down in October falling to 5.1 percent.
