Yes, the How I Met Your Mother star is hosting his very own variety show on NBC this fall, Best Time Ever, premiering tonight at 10 p.m. ET. It was not the first (or the last) time Harris closed a show by making rhythmic jokes about what happened during it, but it was certainly the best.
“The nice thing about the show is it’s all fed in bite-sized segments”.
The Bastard Executioner (10 p.m., FX) – The debut of a new medieval drama set in Wales that tells the story of a 14th century warrior (Lee Jones) whose life is changed when a messenger beseeches him to lay down his sword and become a journeyman executioner. ‘We were in no rush to do it, and so then I wanted that to sort of pass away and then we could go and not have it be such a big statement’.
“There’s not a large digital backstage contingency to it like a late night talk show would do”, he adds. He anxious the format would become to boring and predictable. The actor will host a live, one-hour show that brings a mix of comedy skits, stunts, pranks, performances, game shows, audience giveaways and celebrity appearances, according to an NBC press release.
“I think TV right now, especially network television, finds itself sometimes in a bit of a rut”, he says. Based on the wildly popular British hit Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, the modernized variety show format and its fearless, multi-talented star will make for one of the best nights ever on TV – week after week.
“There’s constant celebrities that are surprise guests. And I am kind of thrilled that for whatever reasons it has not been done before and I am now free to do it”.
