NeNe Leakes is joining Betty White for To Tell The Truth reboot
It was revealed Wednesday that the “big legend” is none other than Betty White, and the “new primetime show” will be ABC’s reboot of the 1960s hit game show “To Tell The Truth”. No premiere date has yet been set.
Betty White is returning to her old stomping grounds.
The premise of the show is three contestants all claim to be a person of notoriety, typically someone with an unusual or remarkable occupation, talent, or experience.
“I have done so many other things [since Tootie], whether comedy, dramas, spoken word, appearing in films and directing, and people are still following my career”, she told ABC News is December 2013, days before giving birth to her second son following her surprise pregnancy at 44.
Betty White and NeNe Leakes will be part of a new version of “To Tell the Truth” on ABC. The panel of celebrities will have a chance to grill each participant before taking turns deciding who they think is telling the truth. Among the modern new twists is the celebrity panelist with the lowest score will have to tweet an outrageous lie about themselves. Cheche and his Band of Liars will be the house band. Each episode will also end with a show-stopping stunt/performance Nene Leakes.
“To Tell The Truth” is produced by FremantleMedia North America and will be taped in front of a live audience in Los Angeles, California. Barry Poznick, Toby Gorman, Thom Beers, Jeff Gaspin, George Moll and Anthony Anderson are executive producers.
Also worth noting, Anderson joins a handful of black male celebs who’ve been asked to host game shows in recent years, including Cedric the Entertainer (“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”), who was succeeded by Terry Crews for the 2014-2015 season of “Millionaire;” Wayne Brady (“Let’s Make a Deal”), Steve Harvey (“Family Feud”), Alfonso Ribeiro (“Catch 21”, “Spell-Mageddon”), and whoever else I’m forgetting at the moment.
