Netanyahu criticises UN’s ‘deafening silence’ on Iran threat to Israel
‘Iran’s been doing all of this… just in the last six months, when it was trying to convince the world to remove the sanctions, ‘ Netanyahu said. Bibi stood silently in front of the packed room, glaring into the crowd with his best stinkeye.
“If Iran’s leaders were working to destroy your country, perhaps you’d be less enthusiastic about the deal”, he said.
He did, however, take a more accusatory tone towards the countries supporting the deal, whom he accused of turning a blind eye to Iran’s aggression towards Israel.
In his speech before the United Nations General Assembly, Netanyahu also claimed that Iran had delivered to Hizbullah SA-22 anti-aircraft missiles and Yakhont anti-ship missiles.
Iran nuclear deal, reached in July by the USA, Iran and five other world powers, is expected to see the lifting of crippling worldwide sanctions against Iran in exchange for a commitment to ending its nuclear program.
In his speech at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas said Palestine was no longer bound by its mutual agreements with the State of Israel, such as the Oslo Peace Accords.
“We will never forget that the most important partner Israel has, has always been and will always be the United States of America”, Netanyahu said. “And I’m gravely concerned that the nuclear deal with Iran will prove to be the marriage certificate of that unholy union”.
Their frosty relations plummeted further during Netanyahu’s re-election campaign when he rejected a two-state solution for peace with the Palestinians.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel is not too pleased with the United Nations, a point he made abundantly clear during a speech to the General Assembly on Thursday.
“Israel has thus left us no choice but to insist that we will not remain the only ones committed to the continuation of those agreements while Israel continuously violates them”, he said.
In his speech, Netanyahu faulted the Palestinian Authority for the failure of peace efforts, and called on Abbas to return to the negotiations.
“And yet the response from every one of you here, utter silence”, he said.
