Netanyahu household canine bites two visitors at candle lighting
Worldwide visitors in Jordan will hopefully dodge a possible attack by the prime minister’s dog.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s beloved dog, Kaiya, proved to be a biter Wednesday night at a Hanukka candle-lighting ceremony for Likud members at the prime minister’s residence. Carson announced the appointment of political strategist George Birnbaum, who served under Netanyahu for 18 months during the prime minister’s first term in the late 1990s, as a foreign policy adviser.
Attorney Or Alon, the husband of Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely, went to pet Kaiya unaware of the earlier commotion.
In a statement that noted his “pride and excitement” in joining Carson’s team, Birnbaum noted the integral relationship between America and Israel.
Luckily, both injuries were minor.
Kaia was adopted by the Netanyahus in July 2015 after their son, Avner, found her at a pound about to be put down. He shared a photo of he and Kaiya together when he made the announcement on Twitter.
“How much light Kaiya brought into our home!” he wrote of the 10-year-old mixed breed. “If you want a canine, find an adult dog to rescue”.
Netanyahu said the incident exposed him to the “flawed” Israeli regulations that allow municipalities to isolate dogs who have bitten people for a period of 10 days, even if they have been vaccinated.
Kaiya has met several high profile visitors including US Secretary of State John Kerry. The two required medical attention for biting wounds. With the extra people, cameras, and unfamiliar surroundings, the prime minister’s dog might have gotten nervous and acted out.
