Netflix Coming To Comcast
“We have much work to do before the service will be available to consumers later this year”, the companies said in a joint announcement. But Netflix doesn’t have as much to lose as smaller competitors.
Having the ability to offer original Netflix content like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black under the X1 service that already brings you all of cable’s top hit shows like Game of Thrones and Billions is a great selling point, as would being able to add original content from Hulu or Amazon down the line. Cable Communications consists of the operations of Comcast Cable, a provider of video, high-speed Internet and voice services under the XFINITY brand.
Netflix is regarded as the leading edge of television-style content. As aggregators of network content, Comcast and other cable networks are under pressure as viewers migrate to other media for movie content in particular.
Pacific Crest analyst Andy Hargreaves called the Comcast-Netflix deal a “win-win”. It has name recognition, a huge subscriber base, and, it turns out, the ability to negotiate mutually beneficial agreements with major cable television and Internet providers.
The report added, “Others won’t have those advantages, and could struggle to find footing if they can’t get their own spot on Comcast’s platform”.
Data limits are already common with cellphone plans.
Netflix has faced increasing competition among streaming services and is having to fight harder than ever to grow, although it has wisely expanded overseas and developed more original programming.
What’s more, X1’s interactive TV service doesn’t qualify as an Internet service under the FCC’s rules.
Shares dropped more than 4% on Wednesday after underperform downgradingJefferies analysts predict 60-90mn subscribers target will take longer than expectedShares of the streaming service fell more than 4% during Wednesday’s intraday trading, and head analyst John Janedis believes that the company’s growth may not be as rapid as first expected. It argues that Stream TV is an IP-cable service even though it’s delivered only to computers. “For Comcast, the deal should improve its competitive position vs. virtual (multichannel video programming distributors like Sling TV from Dish Network (DISH)) and benefit demand for higher broadband tiers”. More than one-third video customers of Comcast have X-1 platform that will have Netflix-compatible.
