Netflix Details How to Build Your Own “Netflix and Chill” Button
Netflix announced that it is planning to release a programmable device called The Switch.
It’s not entirely clear how it will order the food you want without having to pause Netflix and have the seemingly never-ending conversation about where you want to get food from, so it’s not quite as simple as it seems. The device can not be purchased online, instead Netflix will provide instructions on how to create it. This makes the device more of a DIY project. For its prototype, the company used the Wi-Fi enabled Particle Core microcontroller, but anyone building the switch is free to choose their own components.
You can now create your very own “Netflix and Chill” button by watching the how-to video here that will restore your faith in humanity. Moreover, the switch is wireless and uses a lithium-ion polymer (LiPo) battery with a charging circuit that connects by Micro USB cable.
Aside from that, Netflix are also encouraging people to tinker around with the hardware and software to make it do other things like dimming the LED lights in your home or even asking it to order pizza for you. Or maybe you can just upgrade “The Switch” so it inflates a few kind of companion for those who don’t have a Netflix and chill partner. According to Engadget, creating and programming The Switch will required understanding of how web servers and APIs work and as well as basic knowledge of electronics.
Netflix invented a switch that may be the greatest invention in the world since Netflix.
