Netflix has invented a “Netflix and chill” button
If any of these things are over your head, you will likely have to continue manually performing all of your binge-watching preparations.
Netflix has opened up the experimental switch to viewers with a guide informing users how to build their own.
If you have no experience cobbling something like this together, you’d be out of luck as it does not appear that Netflix will be selling the actual device.
In recognition of the place it now holds in the world’s cultural fabric, Netflix has built a button which will aid your Netflixing and chilling.
The device, which can be battery powered or connected to the mains depending on the components you select, can be programmed to turn on your TV and activate Netflix, dim smart lights, order food from a takeaway service, and silence an Android smartphone. On a pad where Netflix was taking requests for its next project, someone named Kathryn left a suggestion for “a dating portion of Netflix that allows you invite someone to ‘Netflix and Chill, ‘ and gives you a suggestion for what to watch based on mutual preferences”. And now the popular streaming service is making it easier for people to just Netflix and chill with just the push of a button.
Netflix users can now make their own button that can be coded to do just about anything, from turning the lights off to ordering take-out.
There’s some soldering involved and a bit of basic programming.
The design in question uses Philips’ internet-connected lights and a TV recommended by Netflix, although the button could be made to work with other kit.
