Netflix launches agressive new crackdown on VPN users
This shows Netflix is aggressively blocking workaround users who try to access unavailable contents from their countries.
Users that use lesser known proxy and VPN providers can continue to watch Netflix content from another region, until the service finds out about them and blocks them too.
Users in the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain all confirmed that they had been blocked from accessing Netflix in a thread on Reddit. However, it now seems that Netflix has successfully managed to block everyone who uses a VPN to access its services.
The streaming movie service prefers to offer its entire collection to its users worldwide.
Intrepid Netflix users have been finding ways around the service’s rules for a while now, but Netflix is cracking down.
Australian Netflix subscribers have been complaining about blocked VPN services since January. “We look forward to offering all of our content everywhere and to consumers being able to enjoy all of Netflix without using a proxy”, reads a recent blog post from January.
Netflix is yet to comment on the latest claims of a crackdown on VPN users.
This comes about six weeks after Netflix said it would crack down on the use of VPNs, insisting that it must abide by geographic licensing terms that specify where movies and TV shows are available for streaming. The company has said that subscribers were using proxies or unblockers to fool its system. NordVPN, one of the more popular VPN providers, told us last week that it had a “number of strategies lined up” should the Netflix crackdown become more offensive.
On the Reddit post, some users explained why they use VPNs for Netflix, including the original poster, eduazy.
